The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation is preparing to resume long-suspended power purchase agreements (PPAs) immediately after the Tihar holidays, prioritizing projects with government investment and ownership.
The first phase will include the 210 MW Chainpur Seti, 439 MW Betan Karnali, 454 MW Kimathanka, 70.3 MW Simbuwa Khola and 124 MW Jagdulla ‘A’ hydropower projects, among others. The second phase will cover large, reservoir-based and semi-reservoir hydropower projects, followed by private-sector proposals.
The ministry aims to complete the PPA process for all projects by mid-December, using standards that consider project readiness, transmission-line availability, financing and national electricity demand.
