May 11 : The Nepal government is soon establishing a border outpost (BoP) of the Armed Police Force near the Kalapani area in the Darchula district.
Speaking at the International Relations Committee under the House of Representatives today, Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali said that the BOP is being set up at Chhangru of the Byas Rural Municipality in the district.
The government’s decision came as a response to the unilateral inauguration of a link road by India that connects up to Manasarovar of China via Lipulekh that falls on the Nepali territory. Lipulekh is interestingly located near the Kalapani area of Nepal, which has been encroached by the southern neighbour for long.
“A squadron of the Armed Police Force (APF) carrying necessary logistics will be sent to the Chhangru area for establishing the BoP by Wednesday (May 13),” he said, adding that a battalion of the APF will also be stationed there gradually.
Admitting that the government has failed to safeguard the Nepali territories in the western frontier with India, he said, “It is very unfortunate that Nepal could not make its presence in Kalapani for several years.”
