More than 1.14 million tourists visited Nepal in 2024, according to the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB). As of Tuesday morning, over 1.147 million visitors had entered the country.
NTB Director Mani Raj Lamichhane stated that Nepal welcomed an average of 3,000 tourists daily, representing a growth of over 14 percent compared to 2023. In 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, the country saw 1.197 million foreign visitors. This year marks the first time tourist arrivals have surpassed pre-pandemic levels, following a near-total halt in arrivals between 2020 and 2022.
According to the latest six-month report from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Nepal’s tourism sector has recovered by 96 percent since the pandemic.
Events like the Nepal Premier League (NPL), the World Buddhist Conference, the International Balloon Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, and various national and international fairs and exhibitions have significantly contributed to the surge in tourist numbers.
