The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has announced that the number of registered taxpayers in Nepal has exceeded 7 million. As of the first six months of the fiscal year 2024/25, a total of 7,036,683 taxpayers are registered with the department.
The majority of taxpayers hold personal Permanent Account Numbers (PAN), primarily due to mandatory salary transaction requirements. In the last three months alone, 142,602 individuals obtained PANs.
Currently, 193,724 taxpayers are registered under business PAN, with 28,086 new registrations in the same period. The number of VAT-registered taxpayers has reached 338,316, with 5,445 new additions. Additionally, 121,682 taxpayers hold excise duty licenses, with 1,871 new registrations recorded.
Meanwhile, the number of permanent account taxpayers has increased to 34,638, with 573 new registrations in the past three months. The steady rise in taxpayer registrations reflects Nepal’s expanding tax base and evolving compliance trends.
