The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell 17.41 points, or 0.66 percent, last week as investors remained cautious amid forecasts of incessant rainfall and concerns over possible disruptions similar to the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli floods a month earlier.
The secondary market opened at 2,647.22 points and closed at 2,629.81 points after three days of trading. NEPSE remained closed on Monday following a ransomware attack, while trading was halted on Friday due to adverse weather conditions.
During the week, the index reached a high of 2,671.04 points and a low of 2,605.32 points, resulting in a volatility of 65.72 points.
The market recorded gains on Tuesday and Thursday but declined sharply by 36.25 points on Wednesday. The weekly decline marked the third consecutive week of losses. In the previous two weeks, the index had gained 16.72 points, or 0.66 percent.
Among the sectoral indices, the manufacturing and processing group gained 120.78 points, while the non-life insurance index recorded the largest decline, falling 164.37 points, or 1.68 percent.
Among individual companies, CYC Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha recorded the highest gain, with its share price rising 9.40 percent. Infinity Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha suffered the largest decline, falling 10.80 percent.
Despite the decline in the index, average daily turnover increased 2.65 percent to Rs 6.285 billion from Rs 6.123 billion in the previous week.
Market capitalization, however, declined to Rs 4.523 trillion from Rs 4.553 trillion, resulting in a reduction of Rs 29.9 billion in investors’ overall market value. In the previous week, investors had gained Rs 150.9 billion in market value.
