The Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA) has introduced a monthly statistical report titled “Insurance Reflection”, aimed at providing in-depth analysis of key indicators in the insurance sector. The report, which covers data up to mid-April (end of Chaitra) in the current fiscal year, is expected to strengthen transparency, accountability, and evidence-based policymaking.
According to NIA Chairperson Sharad Ojha, the report offers detailed insights into various aspects of the insurance industry, including financial health of companies, insurance coverage, claim submissions and settlements, number of policies issued, premium collections, and more. He emphasized that the initiative will support not just insurers and policymakers, but also researchers and the general public in understanding the sector’s performance and ongoing developments.
The monthly report compiles comprehensive data on total policies, solvency ratios, insurer workforce and branch expansion, investments, and trends in premium collection. It also provides critical updates on the Authority’s own activities, including regulatory measures, claim registrations and settlements, consumer complaints, field inspections, anti-money laundering initiatives, and policy approvals.
Chairperson Ojha noted that by tracking these indicators monthly, stakeholders can better assess the sector’s progress and challenges. He expressed hope that the consistent publication of Insurance Reflection will serve as a valuable tool for identifying areas requiring policy intervention and for fostering a more transparent and efficient insurance market in Nepal.
