Kathmandu, November 24 : Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) is planning to establish petrol pumps in the national highways across the country, according to media reports. A total of 20 such pumps will be operated in the five highways: Mahendra Highway, Madan Bhandari Highway, Postal Highway, Mid-hill Highway and Karnali Highway.
In the policies and programmes of the government presented for the current fiscal year, it is mentioned that the State will maintain its presence in the supply and distribution system of petroleum products. “In line with this policy, we are preparing to invest in building the same pumps,” Executive Director of the NOC, Surendra Kumar Poudel, was quoted as saying.
The state-run oil monopoly has already written to the related local levels to provide the lands needed for the construction of the pumps A total of 58 local levels that lie in the five highways are requested to provide the lands on lease for 30 years.
Barring aside the cost involved in the land leasing, it will take around Rs 50 million to build these modern pumps, according to the NOC.
