The Nepal Rastra Bank has reiterated its request for banks and financial institutions to facilitate account opening based on the National Identity Card.
The central bank had already issued directives to banks and financial institutions through an integrated guideline, and today it has made the request public once again through an official notice.
According to the notice, all banks and financial institutions have been instructed to open bank accounts by obtaining the National Identity Card number through the department’s portal and to assist customers accordingly.
A system has been implemented to allow checking of the National Identity Card number and the status of applications through the portal of the Department of National Identity and Civil Registration.
