June 5 : Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has recently decided to take action against Ncell for operating value added services (VAS) without its consent.
According to media reports, the private telecom operator will be slapped with a fine of Rs 500,000 for operating schemes like ‘Love Detector’ and ‘Magic Voice’ without approval from the telecom regulator of the country. Similarly, it has to pay another fine of Rs 500,000 for operating promotional offers during the occasions like Valentine’s Day and Maha Shivaratri in the same illicit way.
It is learnt the NTA lately decided to penalise Ncell with the said fines even though the former had launched investigation into this issue some two years ago.
