Kathmandu, August 9: Nepal Telecom Authority (NTA) has issued a 15-day ultimatum to Nepal Satellite Telecom Pvt Ltd(Hello Nepal) for paying its frequency fee. A meeting of the board members of the NTA convened on August 2 decided to issue such ultimatum to the company.
According to nayapatrika.com, the company, promoted by businessperson Ajay Sumargi, is yet to cleat its said fee amounting to around Rs 800 million.
Of the total amount, the NTA, in its ultimatum, directed the telecom company to pay 70 million within 15 days and the remaining amount within the next three months. Min Prasad Aryal, spokesperson, NTA, warns that if the company fails to do so, its operating license will be automatically revoked in line with the Sub-Section 3, Section 28, Telecom Act, 2053.
Nepal Satellite Company has not been paying its frequency pay for the last four fiscal years i.e from 2072/73 to 2075/76. Though the Authority is repeatedly asking the company to fulfill its financial obligations, the company seems to be turning deaf ear to such calls. Earlier, it had also refused to pay Rs 2.7 million for using V-SAT. However, it paid the amount some two months back after the Authority issued a warning to annul its license.
