A total of 61,072 Nepalis received government approval to work abroad between mid-May and mid-June, according to records maintained by the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE).
Among the permit holders, 53,698 were men and 7,374 were women. The number represents a decline of 13,357 workers compared to the previous month, when 74,429 Nepalis had secured work permits for overseas employment.
Malaysia emerged as the leading destination during the review period, with 8,179 workers obtaining permits to work there. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) followed with 5,394 workers, while Qatar accounted for 2,883, Saudi Arabia for 2,598, and Romania for 2,126 workers.
The figures highlight the continued dependence of many Nepalis on foreign employment opportunities, although the number of new labor approvals declined compared to the preceding month. Overseas labor migration remains a major contributor to Nepal’s remittance-driven economy.
