Kathmandu, April 12 : The Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources Committee under the Federal Parliament has directed the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development to ease supply of grains during the ongoing national lockdown.
“The very move aims to ensure that general consumers across the country will not face any difficulty in getting the agricultural products in the present situation,” the Committee’s chair Purna Kumari Subedi said
According to her, the committee has draw the attention of the government to the reports that farmers are destroying their milk and other agricultural products for failure to find buyers due to the lockdown.
The Committee also demanded the government make arrangements for collection and sale of milk in a safe way and supply it to the factories to make powdered milks.
Likewise, it concluded that the farmers have incurred big losses as their agriculture produces are not being sold in the marketplaces due to the lockdown, referring to the banana farmers of Kailali district facing the brunt of the lockdown in particular.
