Kathmandu, April 18: The construction works of the concrete runway of the Pokhara Regional International Airport have been completed. With this, the overall construction of this national pride project is almost sure to be accomplished three months before the set date.
Though the date fixed to complete the Pokhara Regional International airport is by July 2021, it is poised to come into operations by December 2020, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), Pokahara airport is the only airport in the country to have concrete runway as other airports are just black-topped. The CAAN claims that the runway of the airport will mot develop any problem for at least 30 years to come.
Apron of the airport has already been built while the taxi-way is under-construction. Similarly, two/thirds of the total construction works of a terminal building have been completed. The airport is capable to handle Boeing 757 and Airbus 320.
To develop this Rs 21.47 billion project, the China’s Export and Import (EXIM) bank has provided loan (75 per cent of construction cost) at two per cent interest rate while remaining 25 per cent is being provided as grants.
