Pokhara Metropolitan City is preparing to celebrate the year 2025 as the Visit Year of Pokhara, which is expected to provide a significant opportunity to further establish Pokhara as a major tourism destination in Nepal. This declaration has sparked discussions from various angles. While tourism entrepreneurs are feeling energized and optimistic about new opportunities, some have criticized the plan for lacking proper infrastructure development and long-term strategic planning.
According to Mayor Dhanraj Acharya, the plan to establish Pokhara as the tourism capital is progressing with special preparations. A variety of events are being planned for the Visit Year 2025, with a focus on adventure tourism, cultural, rural, and environmental tourism.
Additionally, an ambitious plan to bring in 1.5 million tourists is underway, with several infrastructure development projects such as the construction of an international conference center, a glass bridge at Devi’s Falls, and tourism infrastructure development in the Seti River Gorge.
Currently, various tourism development projects are also being implemented in Pokhara with the financial support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which is expected to improve local livelihoods and the tourism sector.
This initiative will create new opportunities to establish Pokhara as a world-class destination. Key efforts will focus on community involvement, infrastructure development, and sustainable environmental conservation.
Pokhara Visit Year 2025 is expected to mark the beginning of a new era in Nepal’s tourism sector, with all stakeholders believing in its transformative potential.
