Consumer price inflation remained stable as of mid-January

Consumer price inflation rate remained almost stable in the past one month during mid-December and mid-January.

According to Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the consumer price inflation as of mid-December was 7.38 percent, while the rate was recorded at 7.26 percent as of mid-January. However, compared to  last year’s inflation of 5.65, the price rise was higher this year.

In the review month, non-food and service inflation rose to 8.57 percent, while food and beverage inflation stood at 5.62 percent. Under the non-food and services category, year on year consumer price index of transportation sub-category increased 16.43 percent, health 11.22 percent, recreation and culture 8.76 percent, miscellaneous goods and services 8.68 percent and furnishing and household equipment 8.33 percent.

Under the food and beverage category, the consumer price index of restaurant and hotel sub-category increased 15.56 percent, tobacco products 11.81 percent, milk products and eggs 9.70 percent, cereal grains and their products 9.56 percent and alcoholic drinks 8.84 percent.

In the review month, consumer price inflation in the Terai was recorded the highest at 7.49 percent. It was 7.30 percent in the hilly region, 6.93 percent in the Kathmandu Valley and 6.69 percent in the mountainous region.
