Kathmandu, October 9 : The Water Supply Corporation is to construct a project with support from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) whereby the water of the Madikhola river would be processed and supplied to meet the growing demand for water in Pokhara.
The project would be constructed with Rs 4.80 billion support from JICA.
This information was shared in a review meeting chaired by Water Supply Minister Bina Magar here on Monday.
People in Pokhara and surrounding areas would get potable water after the completion of the project.
Meanwhile, the Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Byabasthapan Board is preparing to start what it called the ‘Water ATM’ for the first time in Kathmandu. A model demo of the Water ATM would be run at the Board’s office premises at Sainbu, Lalitpur from Thursday, Board’s executive director Dr Sanjib Bikram Rana, said.
It is stated that one can get potable water on payment of a designated amount of money from the Water ATM. This sort of ATM would be installed at Patan Durbar Square in the first phase and gradually expanded to other areas in the Kathmandu Valley, according to Rana.
The meeting also heard that so far stickers have been issued to 18 water tankers and Rs 36 thousand in fines been charged from these tankers not meeting the set standard. This action was taken based on the monitoring carried out by a taskforce formed by the Board.
It also discussed on how to manage sewage and drainage in the country. RSS
