Kathmandu, April 12: The Nepal Telecom Authority (NTA) has ordered all the internet service providers and mobile service providers to ban PlayerUnknown’s Battleground, popularly known as PUBG.
Such move was made following the complaints on the negative and violent repercussions of this online multiplayer battle royale game on the children and youths. In it, a maximum of 100 players drop on an island and fight to be the last one left standing. The players have to search for arms and other equipment after landing on the island and compete to win the game.
The Kathmandu District Court approved a public interest litigation filed by the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPDC) to ban PUBG on Thursday (April 11). And, on the same day, the NTA came up with the direction to outlaw it.
The MPCD received both verbal and written complaints from schools, individual guardians and schools’ and guardians’ organisations regarding the PUBG.
In most cases, the players were found to be exhibiting violent activities such as hurling and banging mobile devices while parents tried to stop them from playing.According to the MPDC, if anyone is found playing the game after the ban, he/she will be arrested. The internet or mobile service provider will also face action if they do not implement the ban.
Many other countries including China have already banned this game citing aggressive and violent tendencies in students.
