Sukumar directed Pushpa 2: The Rule, a 2024 Telugu-language action-drama produced by Mythri Movie Makers in association with Sukumar Writings. The film stars Allu Arjun in the title role, alongside Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil, Jagadish Pratap Bhandari, Rao Ramesh, Sunil, and Anasuya Bharadwaj. It is the second film in the Pushpa series, following Pushpa: The Rise (2021).
Much of the film’s success can be attributed to Sukumar’s direction and the strong performances of the cast. Allu Arjun delivers an exceptional portrayal of Pushparaj, bringing both power and entertainment to the role. The story follows Pushparaj’s journey with the red sandalwood syndicate, exploring his rise to power, his clashes with Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, and the emotional and family struggles he faces.
The first half is packed with high-octane action and gripping moments, drawing in the audience. However, the second half falters with weaker storytelling, transitioning into emotional family drama that feels disconnected from the intense action of the beginning. The film ends on a compelling cliffhanger, teasing the next chapter. One notable drawback is the film’s length, which runs for 3 hours and 20 minutes. Certain songs and family-oriented scenes feel unnecessary and drag the pacing, distracting from the main narrative. Additionally, some action sequences come across as excessive and lack impact. A 30-minute reduction would have made the film a much tighter and more engaging experience.
Allu Arjun’s performance is a standout, while Fahadh Faasil impresses as the unhinged DSP, though his character feels underutilized. Rashmika Mandanna, Anasuya Bharadwaj, and the rest of the supporting cast deliver solid performances. The action scenes and background score are highlights, but the screenplay loses momentum at times. Despite its flaws, Pushpa 2 is an enjoyable ride, and fans are eager to see how Pushpa 3: The Rampage builds on this legacy with a more compelling story.
