The 111 MW Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project, located in Timure, Rasuwa, has officially begun commercial electricity production.
The project initiated trial production in mid-November using one of its three 37 MW turbines. Following a month of successful testing, it has transitioned to the commercial production phase.
The electricity generated by the project is now connected to the national grid via the Nepal Electricity Authority’s (NEA) 220/132/33 kV substation in Thambucht, situated in Amachodingmo Rural Municipality, Rasuwa.
This new contribution to the national grid is anticipated to support the NEA in meeting the electricity demands of the Kathmandu Valley. However, technicians have noted that winter production is expected to drop to 37 MW, substantially below the project’s full capacity.
