Chen Song, the Chinese ambassador to Nepal, said that China Overseas Engineering Group Company Limited (COVEC) has dug 1,503.3 meters of Sunkoshi Marin tunnel in a month. Song also mentioned that COVEC set two new world records in Nepal.

Mitra Baral, head of the Sunkoshi Marin Diversion Project, said that 12.3 km tunnel digging work has been completed so far under the project.

According to Baral, out of the total length of the 13.3 km tunnel, only 1 km tunnel is left to be dug. According to him, the work can be done without any hindrance and the tunnel will break through in May.

According to Baral, the project still needs a Rs 2 billion budget. He said that the budget of Rs 1 billion was received only a few days ago. Baral said that Rs 4 billion has been spent on the project so far.

The construction of this tunnel was started on October 14, 2022. The tunnel construction of the project is being done by the Chinese company, COVEC. The joint venture of Indian company Patel Engineering with Nepal’s Raman Group has been entrusted with the construction of the dam.

According to the builders, the construction of the dam and powerhouse will be completed within the stipulated time even if there is some delay. The goal is to complete the project by October 2027.
