As of Bhadra (mid-August to mid-September) in the current fiscal year 2025/26, Nepal’s revenue collection has reached Rs 158.71 billion, well below the target of Rs 218.46 billion set for the month.
According to the Ministry of Finance, only 72.65 percent of the target was achieved, leaving a shortfall of Rs 59.75 billion by the end of Bhadra. For the month alone, the government had estimated Rs 94.08 billion, but actual collection stood at just Rs 73.61 billion.
In comparison, during the same period of the previous fiscal year 2024/25, the target was Rs 213.36 billion, of which Rs 169.52 billion was collected.
The Ministry noted that revenue submission was affected by the ‘Gen-Z’ protests on Bhadra 23 and 24 (September 8 and 9), which prevented many businesses from filing their revenue statements. While institutions were required to submit revenue statements for Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August) by Bhadra 25, the deadline has now been extended to Ashoj 25 (October 11) without penalties.
Despite this extension, the Ministry projects that overall revenue collection will remain lower than expected. The government has set a target of Rs 1,419.30 billion in revenue for the current fiscal year.
