Kathmandu, March 9: The government revenue collection has seen a 21 percent growth in the government revenue collection in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. Nevertheless, this growth is still 12 percent less than what Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada has targeted during this year’s budget announcement.
The government was able to collect Rs 588 billion in revenues as of April 13.
Khatiwada had targeted to collect Rs 674 billion in the fiscal year 2018/19 but the government is behind its set target by more than Rs 800 million.
The Inland Revenue Department, which had targeted to collect Rs 282 billion, collected just Rs 247 billion as of April 13. It mobilized Rs 119 billion as income tax (81 percent), Rs 58 billion as VAT (82 percent) and Rs 50 billion as excise (97 percent).
