April 5 : The workers of the Kathmandu metropolitan city involved in the waste management are at risk due to the lack of adequate safety equipment.
They are not getting safety gowns as they require. Only 500 such gowns, gloves, masks have been distributed for the sanitation workers of the KMC and Kirtipur municipality. The Guthi, non-governmental institutions, provided these stuffs to the workers via respective mayors of the municipalities on Friday (April 3).
While receiving the stuffs, KMC mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya shared that these equipment will help ensure the workers’ safety, albeit little, in this critical period triggered by the outbreak of the deadly COVID-19.
He also shared that the KMC will initiate to implement the health insurance scheme to the workers as introduced by the federal government. Similarly, Kirtipur municipality Ramesh Maharjan urged the workers to pay attention to their security while going in work and the municipality is ready to support in case of emergency. RSS
