May 11: Some 5,000 foreign nationals have returned to their home countries since March 24 when the ongoing lockdown was imposed in the country. Till Saturday (May 9), 4,874 such nationals flew back to their own countries through chartered flights.
More than 60 countries took back their respective nationals from 51 chartered flights during the last one and half a month, according to the Immigration Department. Such foreign citizens include the tourists coming to visit Nepal but stranded due to the lockdown and employees of diplomatic missions and donor agencies, among others.
Director at the Department, Ram Chandra Tiwari, said that United Kingdom rescued highest number of its nationals during the period which stands at 666. Similarly, Germany took back its 656 nationals, America 535 citizens, France 425, Canada 322, Australia 236, Netherlands 176, South Korea 163, Japan 162. Likewise, Switzerland, Italy, Russia, Poland, Austria, New Zealand, China, Singapore, Bangladesh, Maldives, Africa, Mexico, Norway, Portugal and India, among other countriesm also rescued their nationals.
