Kathmandu, April 20 : A special plan is being formulated to engage those Nepali workers losing their jobs in foreign countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic in income-generating activities back in their own country.
A meeting held at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies on Sunday (April 19) formed a taskforce under the coordination of the Industrial Investment and Promotion Division at the Ministry to devise such plan.
The very taskforce comprises the representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, among others. Similarly, it has members from the umbrella organisations of business communities like Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) and Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC).
The newly formed taskforce has been given the period of 15 days to submit a report identifying income-generating sources in the country itself for the Nepali youths losing their overseas employment due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The meeting, likewise, decided to provide the salaries to tho industrial workers for the ongoing lockdown period. All the industries that have closed due to the lockdown have been divided into three categories and a decision was also made by it to present a proposal to the high-level committee for the their operations.
