Kathmandu, June 13: The Supreme Court has issued a mandamus order against any kind of road construction inside the Chitwan National Park unless allowed by the Environmental Impact Assessment carried out in the agreement between concerned stakeholders including the CNP and the UNESCO.
The full text of the order made on February 14 by a joint bench of Justices Dr Ananda Mohan Bhattarai and Tej Bahadur KC was made public amid a programme here on Wednesday (June 12).
“Do not allow any road construction-related work inside the CNP unless the EIA provides approval for the same,” reads the directive. Advocates Ram Chandra Simkhada, Achyut Raj Budhathoki, Dhananjaya Khanal and Jagannath Mishra jointly had filed a writ petition in the Supreme court demanding a halt in road construction inside the CNP.
