Flower sales across Nepal are projected to reach Rs 645 million during the five-day Tihar festival beginning November 6. According to the Floriculture Association Nepal, around 5.18 million flower garlands worth Rs 480 million are expected to be sold, alongside 4.3 million individual blossoms for decoration.
Marigold garlands are expected to dominate sales, with demand reaching 4.5 million units worth an estimated Rs 405 million. However, recent floods and landslides may force Nepal to import some marigolds to meet demand. Commercial marigold cultivation now covers more than 225 hectares across all seven provinces, while Nepal has achieved self-sufficiency in globe amaranth flowers.
