Transport entrepreneurs have halted cargo along Araniko, BP and Helambu highways in protest against the decision of District Administration Office, Kavrepalanchok to mandatorily get the loads they carry weighed.
The DAO directed in this regard in a meeting between transport entrepreneurs and stakeholders last Tuesday following a circular by the Ministry of Home Affairs to operate load weighing centres in the district.
Load weighing centres have been established at Keraghari in Panchkhal Municipality, Naikintar in Panauti and Bhakunde in Namobuddha.
According to the guidelines, a cargo transport with more than six wheels has to undergo mandatory weighing of load. A centre charges Rs 150 per vehicle for weighing loads. Freights have come to a halt for the past two days.
Following the protest, police personnel in a large group have been deployed at all load weighing centres, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhagya Purush Dhakal.
