The import of urea from China is expected to give relief to farmers who have been reeling under a shortage of fertilizers. The import took place on Wednesday as part of a contract awarded to a company, Silk Market, to import a total of 10,000 metric tonnes of the fertilizer from China, said Office officer Narad Gautam.

The fertilizer would be sent to Kathmandu when the Department of Customs nodded in this regard, he said. As part of the import, Silk Market in the first trip imported 1,500 metric tonnes of fertilizer from China six month ago.

The process to import the remaining 8,500 metric tonnes has started, said the Silk Market.
