The US Embassy in Kathmandu in collaboration with the American Chamber of Commerce in Nepal (AmCham Nepal) Thursday organized a daylong workshop with business and government leaders to promote sustainable economic development in Nepal.
Issuing a statement, the embassy said the workshop focused on Nepal’s business environment and investment policy initiatives.
The workshop saw the participation of entrepreneurs, executives, business association representatives, development agencies, think tanks, and government officials – all key stakeholders in promoting sustainable economic development in Nepal, according to the embassy.
“The event was also an opportunity for the US Embassy to demonstrate support for increased US business investment and engagement in Nepal,” it added.
Chargé d’Affaires Manny P Micaller Jr, Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Maha Prasad Adhikari, and Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Arjun Pokharel delivered opening remarks in the workshop.
“In Nepal, as in many other countries, the private sector is the key change agent in economic development – creating jobs and contributing the most to national income.” Chargé d’Affaires Manny P Micaller Jr said in the workshop. “Beyond that, the private sector leads by example, demonstrating values such as responsibility and inclusion, and making a positive impact that lifts all communities in Nepal,”
The event also highlighted the new and rapidly growing American Chamber of Commerce in Nepal (AmCham Nepal), which is working to support the US-Nepal trade and investment relationship, the embassy added in the statement.
