Parasi, April 25 : Green vegetables grown in 200 bigha of land have been destroyed by the hailstorm after rainfall in herein the Palhinandan Rural Municipality in the past few days. The farmers bemoaned that long guards, bitter guards, pumpkin, cucumber, onion, chilly, coriander, radish, cabbage and other green vegetables were destroyed from the hailstone just at the time of harvest.
The farmers are left worried as the vegetables grown with much labour and expenses were destroyed. Ward No. 5 of the rural municipality alone lost vegetables ready to harvest in 100 bigha while other wards lost significantly, chief of agriculture section of the rural municipality Pashupathinath Chaudhary said. Saying that the on-site visit of the losses was conducted, Chaudhary added that the farmers from almost all wards are affected by the hailstorm.
Farmer Mahendra Gupta said that they have submitted applications in the rural municipality office seeking due compensations for the losses. “Our vegetables have been hit by the hailstones at a time when the market of such products is already at its worst due to the ongoing national lockdown against the COVID-19 pandemic.
