Kathmandu, December 23 : Former Ambassador of Nepal to the People’s Republic of China (PRC) Tanka Karki has said that Nepal should identify new areas of goods and services to export to China to lower our trade deficit to the northern neighbour.
At a programme on Yunnan Specialties Exhibition organized by Yunnan Commercial Representatives Office in Kathmandu here on Sunday, December 23 Karki said that tourism has to be promoted in Nepal and more Chinese visitors should be brought in as a measure to reduce our trade deficit. “More Chinese investment has to be lured. Obviously, we need more Chinese assistance in Nepal,” Karki added.
Saying that committed leadership and hardworking people in line with the political system can work for the development cause, Karki, also the leader of Nepal Communist Party added that development is the task of the people themselves and China has taught this to the world and Nepal.
During the programme, Deputy Director General of Yunnan Commercial Representatives Office in Kathmandu Wu Lingcheng said that the Office introduced numerous trading and investment opportunities to companies from Yunnan by helping them to set up branches in Nepal and brought local products including tea, coffee, Pashmina, Thangka, wood carvings to Yunnan market.
The office introduced a lot of Nepal retailers to participate in the China-South Asia Expo taking place every year in June, Wu shared. Saying that Yunnan and Nepal have the same climate, geological conditions, natural resources, and agricultural products, he added that Nepal is an ideal place for Yunnan companies to start their overseas cooperation.
“This event will further improve relationships between Yunnan companies to Nepal companies,” he observed.
Chairman of China-Nepal Executives Council Anoop Ranjan Bhattarai, Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nepal Zhang Fan and others expressed their opinions on trade, business cooperation and effective collaboration on trade promotion between Nepal and China.
The Yunnan Commercial Representative Office in Kathmandu was established in 2015 with the purpose of leading Yunnan companies to enter the Nepal market as well as introducing Nepal’s companies to Yunnan market. On the occasion, a number of Chinese goods produced in Yunnan Province of China were kept in display. The organizer said that the Chinese goods producers from Yunnan are supplying those items in the Nepali market. A large number of business persons from both the countries were also present at the exhibition. RSS
