The Department of Tourism has granted permits to 14 climbers for the autumn ascent of Dhaulagiri peak, situated in Myagdi district. As the seventh tallest mountain in the world at 8,167 meters, Dhaulagiri is located in Dhaulagiri rural municipality-4.
The department has collected over Rs 1.6 million in royalty fees from these summiteers. Last summer, 22 male and 8 female climbers received permits, generating Rs 7.1 million in revenue.
According to Hari Prasad Tilija, a ward member of Dhaulagiri rural municipality-4 and hotelier at the Italian Base Camp, climbers—including Sherpa guides, porters, and assistants—have started arriving at the base camp following permit approval.
Current data from the Tourism Department indicates that a total of 275 climbers, including 88 women from 54 countries, have received permits this season, generating over Rs 45 million in revenue. Each foreign climber must pay $900 for permission to ascend peaks over 8,000 meters.
In addition to Dhaulagiri, other snow-capped peaks available for climbing include Putha Himchuli, Annapurna IV, Thakar Go East, Pungi, Kumbhakarna, Araniko Chuli, Api, and Makalu.
