Singham Again looks like the ultimate Rohit Shetty film, dialing up the action with an ensemble star cast and a larger-than-life ethos that is precise for big screens. Coming off the Cop Universe, it feels like a familiar formula-high-octane action, loud background scores, and charismatic heroes. But, as you said, it’s pretty apparent that the film is tailor-made for a theatrical experience. The fact that it is so intense and full of relentless action sequences makes it entertaining on the big screen with adrenaline and spectacle.
It is also interesting because the film tries to bring in motifs from the Ramayana, giving it a mythological flair, which, depending on how it is executed, could be quite hit or miss. As far as storytelling goes, it doesn’t seem to break new ground, making it somewhat predictable. For those who find high-brow film or deeply complex plotlines endearing, it might not appeal, but for the fans of Shetty’s trademark formula-over-the-top action, humor, and cinematic grandeur is likely just what they’re after.
It’s good to know it is more about spectacle than subtlety and that it’s definitely a “theater movie.” I agree with your take that it’s probably a single-view, crowd-pleaser of a film and may not quite have the same effect on OTT, where the larger-than-life feel might be lost.
Is the Singham franchise something you’ve enjoyed in the past, or is this one more of a “guilty pleasure” film for you?
