Five-star hotels in Kathmandu start shutting down due to COVID-19

Kathmandu, March 22 : Owing to a sharp decline in the tourist arrivals due to the global onset of the COVID-19 crisis, the five-star hotels in the capital have started to shut down, according to karobardaily.com. With their room occupancy rates hitting rock bottom, such hotels are halting their operations.

Hotel Yak and Yeti, located at Durbarmark in the capital announced its closure for uncertain period on Saturday (March 22). Similarly, Hotel Hyatt at Bouddha in Kathmandu is preparing to close down its operations. In this regard, the management and the authorized trade union have been holding discussions. Likewise, Soaltee Hotel in Tahachal has already given leave to its employees without deducting their facilities.  

The Dwarika’s Hotel  in Battisputali, Marriott Kathmandu in Naxal  and Hotel Raddission in Lazimpat have also announced to halt their respective services. Among these institutions, some are giving paid leave to their staff members while others are not offering any monthly remunerations to their employees.

The five-star hotels in the capital have been shutting down after the government announced a suspension of incoming international flights to Nepal on last Friday (March 20).
