Kathmandu, July 13 : Four organisations related to the media and advertising have urged the government not to wait till October 24 this year to implement the clean feed policy in the country.

While jointly presenting a memo to Minister for Communication, Information and Technology Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada on Sunday (July 12), the Nepal Media Society, Advertising Association of Nepal, Broadcasting Association of Nepal (BAN) and Community Radio Promotion Association came up with such an appeal.

The government plans to implement the policy from the coming October 24 as provisioned by the National Advertising Policy-2076 B.S. However, these organisations argue there is a need to materialise it from July 16, 2020 in order to help expand the entire media industry.

“If the contents of foreign channels being aired in the Nepali sky are made advertising-free, it will also help discourage the import of foreign products in the country, thereby also reducing its ever widening trade deficit,” the memo reads.

While receiving the memo, Minister Dr Khatiwada, who is also government spokesperson, said that that his ministry will seriously look upon concerns raised by the media and advertising professionals. “We will consider implementing the policy through administrative decision before the date formally set by the adverting act,” he remarked.
