50 percent increase in export through Birgunj customs

The export of Nepalese goods to India and third countries using Birgunj, the main gateway of Nepal and the country’s main trade port, has seen an indescribable increase.

Compared to the financial year 2077/78, there has been a 50 percent increase in the export of Nepalese goods using this channel in 2078/79 through Birgunj. In the previous financial year, Nepalese goods worth more than 53.68 billion 28 million rupees were exported, but in the last year, goods worth more than 26.81 billion five million rupees, i.e. more than 80.49 billion 33 million rupees, were exported.

It is 49.94 percent higher than the previous year.

Sumit Gupta, the information officer of the office, informed that the main items exported to India and third countries from this point are processed soybean oil, fruit juice, processed sunflower oil, bulk cloth and other items.

He said that compared to the previous year, the export of processed soybean oil decreased by 13 percent, but the export of processed sunflower oil increased by 56 percent, fruit juice by 41 percent, and textile exports by 45 percent.

According to the industrialists, the scope of subsidies given by the government for the export of Nepalese goods to India and third countries will help in export promotion.
