Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal through the Home secretary assured the agitating people, who have set out on a journey to Kathmandu, the federal capital, all the way from Bardibas in Mahottari district, seeking the government’s support, of resolving their problems, and asked them to return home, according to the PM’s press coordinator Surya Kiran Sharma.

Following the direction, Makawanpur’s Chief District Officer (CDO) Rajendra Dev Pandey held a meeting with the agitating farmers and assured that the government was at work to make related laws, and a case was filed against loan sharks.

He also pledged to provide necessary assistance to them to return home. On the occasion, the farmers said they had joined a campaign against loan sharks, and would not return home until related laws were made. They also urged the management to arrange for blankets and transportation for them to reach Kathmandu as part of their campaign. They were provided with blankets, said CDO Pandey.

In resolving their problems, the Ministry of Home Affairs has forwarded the draft of the related law to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, said PM’s press coordinator Sharma.

“Prime Minister directed the secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs to present the related law to the meeting of the Council of Ministers scheduled to take place today as a proposal and register with the parliament. The law will be registered with the parliament soon. The Prime Minister is serious about resolving the problems of the affected farmers,” he said. So far, 350 people have been booked for practising and promoting loan sharks, also locally known as ‘Metre Byaj’.
