Nepal has imported 5,702 four-wheeled electric vehicles (EVs) valued at Rs 14.19 billion during the first five months of the fiscal year 2024/2025, generating Rs 7.67 billion in customs duty for the government.
Data from the Department of Customs reveals that 1,485 EV units were brought into the country between mid-November and mid-December (Mangsir) alone.
In comparison, 3,285 fossil-fuel-powered four-wheelers worth Rs 5 billion were imported during the same five-month period, with 242 units arriving in Mangsir.
The department also reported the import of 93,551 petrol-powered two-wheelers, collectively valued at Rs 11.22 billion, including 11,694 bikes and scooters imported in Mangsir.
On the EV front, 3,810 two-wheeled electric vehicles, worth Rs 418.8 million, were imported during the same timeframe.
In total, the government collected Rs 29.36 billion in revenue from vehicle imports between mid-July and mid-December.
