The Government of India has approved the purchase of 80 megawatts (MW) of electricity generated by two hydropower projects in Nepal. With this latest approval, Nepal’s export capacity to India has reached 1,090.9 MW, up from the earlier 1,010.9 MW. Including 40 MW already approved for export to Bangladesh, Nepal’s total cross-border power export approval now stands at 1,130.9 MW.
Earlier, on Shrawan 2), India had granted approval for 200 MW, and on Bhadra 5, it approved an additional 80 MW. This approval falls under the bilateral agreement for medium-term electricity trade and is valid from August 21, 2025, to October 31, 2026.
The latest clearance covers electricity generated from the Mewa Khola Hydropower Project (48.5 MW) and the Karua Seti Hydropower Project (31.04 MW).
