The government has begun preparations to adjust public transport fares following the recent increase in petroleum prices.
With fuel costs rising, the Department of Transport Management has initiated the process of reviewing fares for public transportation and freight services. According to the department, internal discussions are underway to reassess the current fare structure.
Director Shreekant Yadav stated that fare adjustments cannot be made by the department alone and require approval from the ministry. However, due to the significant rise in fuel prices, the department has started internal preparations to increase public transport fares. He added that a conclusion on the matter is expected by Thursday.
Transport operators have also demanded a fare revision after the hike in fuel prices.
