The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has directed promoters of hydropower projects currently under construction to compulsorily submit periodic progress reports to ensure effective monitoring and timely completion of projects.
Issuing a public notice, the Department of Electricity Development (DoED) under the NEA’s Business Development Directorate instructed all hydropower projects that have already signed Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and commenced construction to provide progress updates every four months.
According to the notice, project developers are required to submit the latest status report to the DoED within seven days of the publication of the notice.
The department said the new requirement has been introduced to maintain updated information on the actual status and construction progress of hydropower projects across the country.
Officials believe that regular reporting will enable authorities to closely monitor project implementation, identify bottlenecks and challenges faced during construction, and facilitate timely measures to address those issues.
The DoED expects the mechanism to improve coordination with project developers and contribute to the smooth and efficient completion of hydropower projects, which play a crucial role in strengthening Nepal’s energy sector and expanding electricity generation capacity.
