Nepal welcomed 91,363 foreign tourists by air in June 2026, registering a 19.5 percent increase compared to the same month last year, according to the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).
Data released by the Department of Immigration showed that international tourist arrivals increased from 76,425 in June 2025 and surpassed the pre-pandemic level of June 2019 by 22.01 percent, when Nepal had received 74,883 foreign visitors.
The latest figures indicate a continued recovery of Nepal’s tourism industry, with arrivals exceeding both last year’s performance and pre-COVID-19 levels.
Visitors from SAARC countries accounted for the largest share of total arrivals, with 48,254 tourists, representing 52.8 percent of all international visitors during the month.
India remained Nepal’s largest source market with 41,809 visitors, followed by China with 8,875 arrivals. Other major source countries included the United States (5,237), the United Kingdom (3,266), Australia (2,694), Japan (2,497), and Germany (1,892).
According to Santosh Bikram Thapa, Senior Officer at the Nepal Tourism Board, the strong growth in arrivals was driven by expanded international air connectivity, sustained tourism promotion campaigns, targeted marketing in key source markets, and Nepal’s growing image as a safe and attractive travel destination.
The tourism board said it plans to further strengthen its promotional efforts in major international markets, including India, China, the United States and Europe, as it prepares for the upcoming peak tourism season.
The continued growth in international visitor arrivals is expected to provide a significant boost to Nepal’s tourism industry, supporting hotels, airlines, trekking agencies, restaurants and other tourism-related businesses while contributing to foreign exchange earnings and overall economic recovery.
