The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has reduced fares for inter-provincial public transport by 2 percent, following the recent decline in petroleum prices.
According to the department, the fare revision has been made in accordance with the reduction in fuel costs. The new rates apply to inter-provincial passenger buses, goods vehicles operating on hilly routes, and cargo trucks plying on Terai highways.
The revised fares will come into effect from Thursday and will be applicable to public transport services operating on national routes that connect two or more provinces.
The fare adjustment follows the recent decision by the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) to reduce the price of petrol by Rs 20 per litre and diesel by Rs 30 per litre after a decline in international fuel prices.
Transport fares in Nepal are periodically adjusted based on changes in fuel prices, which constitute a major component of operating costs for public transport operators.
Earlier, in late April, the DoTM had increased passenger and freight transport fares by up to 5 percent after the Nepal Oil Corporation raised fuel prices in response to higher international oil costs.
The latest reduction is expected to provide some relief to commuters and businesses by lowering travel and freight transportation costs, while also contributing to reduced logistics expenses across the country.
