Nepal welcomed 85,444 foreign tourists in August 2026, according to the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), marking a slight decline compared to the same month last year.
The number of tourist arrivals was around 3,000 lower than the 88,680 visitors recorded in August 2025.
India remained Nepal’s largest source market, with 26,373 visitors, accounting for 30.87 percent of total arrivals. China ranked second with 10,304 visitors, followed by Sri Lanka with 8,710, the United States with 6,293, Bangladesh with 4,487, and the United Kingdom with 3,476.
Regionally, South Asia contributed the highest number of tourists, with 41,422 arrivals, reaffirming its position as Nepal’s most important tourism market. Other Asian countries contributed 18,275 visitors, while Europe accounted for 10,875 arrivals.
Similarly, Nepal welcomed 7,473 tourists from the Americas, 2,529 from Oceania, 1,100 from the Middle East, and 338 from Africa during the month.
Despite the slight year-on-year decline in overall tourist arrivals, tourism officials noted that South Asia continued to dominate Nepal’s tourism market in August, with India remaining the largest single source of international visitors.
