April 28 : The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has slapped a fine of Rs 300 thousand on the Bhat-bhateni Supermarket in Tangal for illicitly charging more to the customers. A monitoring team from the Department had found that it was selling the daily goods violating the set MPR (Maximum Retail Price).
According to the Department, it took actions against the store as per the Consumer Protection Act, 2075. Similarly, the Department imposed a penaliy of Rs 100 thousand on the MBT Food Store at Kapan as it was found operating without keeping the price list of commodities.
The government has permitted big stores including Bhatbhateni even during the lockdown for the convenience of the people to buy essentials. The Department has intensified market monitoring despite the lockdown to prevent consumers from being cheated during the present adverse situation.
