BIMSTEC security officials’ meeting focus on preventing criminal activities, human trafficking

Kathmandu, March 24: The third meeting of the security officials of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) held on March 21 in Thailand has touched upon various burning issues like cybercrime, criminal activities, human trafficking, and drug smuggling.
The member countries have expressed their strong commitment to deal with inter and intra country security challenges and controlling crimes by making use of available resources, said Inspector General of Nepal Police Sarbendra Khanal talking to media-persons.
IGP Khanal returned home on Saturday after attending the two-day meeting.
On the occasion, participating security officials from the member countries had exchanged the capacity building measures being adopted in their respective countries to boost security performance, he said.
He also read out the message of commitment sent by Prime Minister of Nepal KP Sharma Oli in the meeting. The message wished prevalence of peace and security in the member states citing the reference of Nepal’s campaign for ‘prosperous Nepal, happy Nepali’.
Khanal, who flew to Thailand on March 20 to participate in the meeting, was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Armed Police Force Khadga Bahadur Rai, National Investigation Department’s Investigation Director, Laxman Gurung and section officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Somesh Thapa. The meeting is being held annually for the past three years.
