Mahanagar Yatayat Pvt. Ltd. has launched electric bus services starting Wednesday, with 12 electric buses operating within the Ring Road area of Kathmandu.
During the inaugural program, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Devendra Dahal, emphasized that promoting electric public transport is crucial to reducing dependence on petroleum fuels and building a smart, eco-friendly city. He stated, “The government will support the operation of electric buses by providing the necessary policies and structural assistance. Our priority is to make public transport accessible, safe, and reliable through the use of technology.”
Speaking at the event, Company Secretary Keshav Nepal said that Mahanagar Yatayat Pvt. Ltd. is the first public limited company based on public transportation services.
Company Chairman Santosh Khatri announced plans to expand electric bus services to other areas in and around the valley in the near future. The company is already operating bus services on routes including Chandragiri, Thankot, Banepa, and Dhulikhel.
With a mission to promote a healthy environment and contribute to the sustainable development of urban transport, the company aims to play a pivotal role in the modernization and greening of Nepal’s public transport system.
