Plans to extend the petroleum pipeline from Amlekhgunj, Bara, to Lothar, Chitwan, are set to move forward soon. This follows the successful completion of the 69-kilometer pipeline connecting Motihari, India, to Amlekhgunj.
A high-level technical team has completed a field study for the Amlekhgunj-Lothar extension, and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently under preparation, according to Engineer Manoj Thakur, spokesperson for the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC).
“A high-level team of technicians from Nepal and India has conducted a field study and is now preparing the DPR,” Thakur confirmed.
As part of the extension project, a petroleum storage facility with a capacity of 100,000 liters is planned for construction at Lothar. Thakur expressed confidence that this development will help prevent shortages of petroleum products in the western and northern regions of Nepal once the pipeline is operational.
Meanwhile, the pipeline from Motihari to Amlekhgunj has already been extended, and test imports of petroleum products have begun.
Pralayankar Acharya, Chief of the NOC Madhesh Province Office in Amlekhgunj, reported the trial supply of 5,500 kiloliters of petrol and 1,000 kiloliters of kerosene through the newly extended pipeline.
“These petroleum products are being tested, and necessary preparations are underway for regular imports through this pipeline,” Acharya stated.
The project is expected to significantly enhance the efficiency and reliability of petroleum supply across Nepal.
