The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has received a surge of public complaints—mostly concerning issues related to local bodies—following the launch of its toll-free hotline and email reporting system roughly six weeks ago.
The initiative, introduced on September 23, aims to curb corruption and give citizens direct access to report irregularities within the ministry. The MoF has encouraged service seekers to send concerns directly to Finance Minister Rameshore Khanal through his personal email (rameshore@mof.gov.np), while additional reports can be submitted via the ministry’s official email (gunaso@mof.gov.np) or through the hotline number 18105000410.
In less than one and a half months, the ministry has registered more than 3,500 complaints related to misconduct in the government system. According to MoF spokesperson Tanka Prasad Pandey, around 2,500 complaints were sent through email, while another 1,000 arrived via WhatsApp. He added that the MoF continues to receive about a dozen complaints daily through the Hello Sarkar platform.
The ministry reported that 80 percent of all complaints involve issues related to local government budgets. Similarly, nearly 60 percent of Hello Sarkar grievances fall under the same category. MoF officials claim that they are addressing almost all grievances submitted by the public.
